The 2026-27 NORAD Hockey season dropped the puck this week, and if opening night was any indication, this league is not messing around. Five games, five different storylines, and — outside of one lopsided result — a night defined by tight scores and teams that refused to fold.
Here's how Week 1 shook out.
One of the league's two expansion clubs wasted no time making a statement. J&J Auto opened its franchise history with a 5-3 win over Nelson and Company, riding balanced scoring and a strong finish to grab the early edge in what promises to be a competitive division. Not a bad way to christen a new locker room.
The night's most lopsided result belonged to Platinum Group, who never let Velodrome find its footing. A 6-1 final sent an early message across the league — Platinum Group looks like a team with something to prove in 2026-27.
If you wanted end-to-end hockey, Game 3 was appointment viewing. Ace and Triple J traded chances all night in a genuine back-and-forth battle, with Ace finally pulling away for a 5-4 win. Tight-checking, high-pace, and decided by the finest of margins — this is the kind of game that sets the tone for a rivalry.
The action never let up in front of the net either. Both goaltenders were tested early and often, standing tall through traffic and second-chance chaos in the crease. Triple J had jump on the rush, too, using team speed to push the pace and force Ace's defense to make quick decisions all night.
In the end, Ace's ability to cash in on the chances that mattered was the separator — but this one had all the makings of a Week 1 measuring-stick game for both clubs.
OUTCAN put together a complete four-line effort to knock off World Orphans, 5-3, in a game that stayed physical and hard-fought from puck drop to final horn. World Orphans battled — this one had the feel of a game that could've gone either way — but OUTCAN's finishing touch in the offensive zone was the difference.
The night closed the way it opened — with a new franchise going down to the wire. Parker Winnelson, NORAD's second first-year club, gave everything it had against OS Offices before falling 6-5 in a game that had jump from start to finish. No moral victories in the standings, but a debut that suggests Parker Winnelson is going to be a tough out all season.
Four of the five Week 1 games were decided by a single goal or less, and both expansion franchises proved they belong — J&J Auto opened with a win, and Parker Winnelson pushed a strong OS Offices squad to the final whistle. If this is a preview of the season ahead, NORAD Hockey fans are in for a ride.
Week 2 is right around the corner. See you at the rink.
