Rules and Regulations

The NORAD Hockey League is a non-contact hockey league. The league has a few unique rules and regulations that govern play to lessen the chance of injury and increase enjoyment given the mix of age, skill, and ability. They are:

1. Full slap-shots and fake slap-shots are not allowed. A slap shot is defined as having the backswing above the waist as estimated by the referee. A player guilty of using a slap shot, or a fake slap shot, will cause a stoppage of play and the ensuing faceoff will be in either face off spot in their team’s defensive zone. If a player uses a slap shot for the purpose of “Delay of Game”, then, at the discretion of the referee, a “Delay of Game” penalty may be applied. Should an injury to an opponent or official result from being struck by the puck as a result of a slap shot, the referee may, at their discretion, assess a major penalty or a match penalty. A second offence by the same player is a minor penalty. Continued non-compliance will result in a game ejection. Half slap shots are allowed, as long as the stick does not come over the waist of the shooting player.

2. All minor penalties are three minutes due to non-stop time. Three minor penalties in the same game will result in a game misconduct and review by the League Executive Committee for possible further discipline.

3. All Major Penalties are an automatic game misconduct and will be reviewed by the League Executive Committee.

4. Multiple Major Penalties may result in being barred from the NORAD Hockey League.

In the past players have been required to wear full equipment; this included helmet with full face shield and shoulder pads. Those rules are no longer in effect and players may wear half shields as well as no shoulder pads. Any other USA Hockey rules are to be followed.

Common curtesy and safety:

1. DO NOT shoot any pucks before the Zamboni doors are closed!

2. Keep end doors closed while warming up.

3. Take all trash and water bottles with you from the benches when you are done playing.

4. Make sure not to leave any “empties” in the locker rooms.
